Better Than Ezra Foundation Writes First Check for New Cool Zoo

December 2, 2009

NEW ORLEANS – Platinum rockers Better Than Ezra are dipping their toes into a new area of philanthropy for them - the new Cool Zoo at Audubon Zoo in New Orleans.

Band members Tom Drummond and Kevin Griffin, officers of the Better Than Ezra Foundation, presented Audubon Nature Institute President and CEO Ron Forman with a check for $50,000 to support the Cool Zoo, an engaging, interactive water park feature scheduled to open next spring at Audubon Zoo.

"The members of Better Than Ezra are actively enriching their community, setting an example of service certain to inspire others to do the same," said Ron Forman. "And they are doing this with a sense of spirit and fun, inviting us all to come along for the ride. We're thrilled they chose Audubon Zoo for this very generous donation - and we'll make sure they're among the first to be dunked and soaked when The Cool Zoo opens next spring."

The Better Than Ezra Foundation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past eight years for community efforts in New Orleans. The foundation's mission is to "provide support in renewal of the structural and cultural heritage of New Orleans and Southern Louisiana."

Audubon Nature Institute is a not-for-profit conservation organization which operates Audubon Zoo, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, Entergy IMAX(c) Theatre, Audubon Park, Woldenberg Riverfront Park, Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species, Freeport McMoRan Audubon Species Survival Center, Wilderness Park and the newly opened Audubon Insectarium.

The Cool Zoo Splash Zone, set to open at Audubon Zoo in May, 2010, is an interactive water park feature in the Zoo with slides, squirters, wading pools and other fun, quirky water activities.
